Most of Perth's bar attention sits with Northbridge, East Perth and Fremantle. Quietly, West Perth has been doing its own thing — and the operators there are starting to get noticed.
A handful of new openings in the last 18 months have transformed a stretch of streets that used to be office-by-day, empty-by-night into something with genuine evening pulse. The Friday-after-work scene is the obvious win, but the weekend crowd is catching up fast.
What the strip does well is feel like it isn't trying too hard. The venues are smaller than their East Perth or Fremantle equivalents, the music is quieter, and the food is sharp rather than show-offy.
There are still gaps — late-night options are thin, and the public transport coverage is rougher than it should be. But the bones of a real bar neighbourhood are here, and the next 12 months will likely fill them in.
If you want to get ahead of the curve, head over on a Thursday. That's when the locals are out, the rooms are full but not jammed, and you'll get a proper read on which venues are building real regulars.
Watch this space. The strip won't stay this quiet much longer.
